Roaches

Why do I have Roaches?

Organic matter/food

Roaches are attracted to all types of Organic Matter.
These food sources are human food, trash, pet waste, as well as harder to clean sources like grease or food residue that builds up on appliances.

Unsealed food packages can also be chewed through in the Pantry and unexpected sources like binding glue for books and cardboard.

Try this: Do a deep cleaning of your kitchen and appliances to remove as many food sources as possible and reduce population.

Environment

Roaches thrive especially well if your home is heavily cluttered or unsanitary. Allowing them to have multiple breeding areas available.

While plants themselves aren't typically an issue, the moist soil and organic material within pots can attract roaches especially if you overwater and create humidity.

Try this: Do a deep cleaning of your home. Clean all cabinets, bathrooms, and throw away any unnecessary items.

Travel/appliances/Multi-unit home

Cockroaches can enter your home through sources, such as travel, appliances, and shared spaces in apartment buildings.

Roaches can hitch a ride in luggage or bags from infested hotels or public areas. Used or even new appliances can harbor roaches that hide in small, warm crevices, especially if they were stored in an infested warehouse or home.

In apartments, roaches can easily travel through shared walls, plumbing, and ventilation systems, spreading from one unit to another, even if your space is clean.

These pathways make it difficult to control roaches without addressing the broader environment

Try this: Check your appliances, luggage and anything recent that has entered your home and deep clean or throw it away.

Can I Do It Myself?

It depends. Do you live in a house or shared building?

If you're in a house and you can effectively remove all food sources. deep clean all surfaces and discard any possible harborage material while maintaining sanitary conditions for at least 2 months then you MIGHT be good to go.

Unfortunately if you are in a shared building, completely eradicating your home of a roach infestation is next to impossible. Especially if your neighbors also don't do their part to keep sanitary conditions.

Your best bet is to always going to be to have a Pest Control Expert provide you a free inspection and let you know what to expect.

P.S. Don't fall for the loop of buying sprays or bombs. Sometimes people spend up to 4x the cost of a one time spray trying to DIY the problem for months at a time.
